VAXIMATES -0.5ml
FISH INJECTION SYRINGES ("GUNS")

Description:
The Vaximates are automatic
injection syringes for fish vaccination (injection "guns"), which
have been proven accurate and effective for fish vaccination by intraperitoneal
injection. Handling time and hence stress to the fish are minimal. The syringes
are made of light-weight, durable plastic and provide adjustable dose (from
0.1ml up to 0.5ml).
Luer lock 0,7 22G hypodermic needles, of suitable lengths (3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm) may be
fitted on to the guns. The needle length depends on the fish size, that is, the
thickness of the fish abdominal walls.
|
The inlet valve, the vaccine
chamber and the piston with its 'O'-ring are made of durable synthetic materials,
are long-lasting and need minimal maintenance other than the normal cleaning
after use (see brief instructions below).
|

|
Advantages:
- Comfortable
use. There is no strain to the vaccinators' hands (especially strain of
the wrist after several hours of continuous injections).
- Made
of hard, durable plastic, difficult to break and suitably robust for use
under the harsh conditions of marine fish farming.
- Light
weight of just 90g.
- Few
moving parts. Minimal maintenance requirements.
- Low cost.

Brief
user instructions:
- Fit the PVC vaccine feed tube (contained in the
package) to the gun's inlet point and then pierce the vaccine bottle's
rubber cap with the draw-off needle fitted to the distal part of the feed
tube.
- To prime, adjust dose to the maximum (0.5ml) and
operate trigger until the air is expelled from the feed tube and from the
body of the gun and the vaccine fills the chamber and starts to flow from
the gun.
- Adjust the desired dose (most often 0.1ml). The
tip of the piston is adjusted to correspond to the appropriate indication
depicted on the vaccine chamber.
- Fit and lock the hypodermic needle to the syringe
Luer lock 22G stem, by turning it clockwise. Fish injection needles range
in length from 3mm to 6mm. Start injecting.
- Replace the needle once it feels less effective
when piercing the fish abdominal walls (usually after about 1500
injections).
- Clean the Vaximates after use with a light soapy
detergent dilution followed by rinsing with distilled water. The process
of cleaning and rinsing the guns is similar to repeating step (2) above
several times.
- For long term storage clean the Vaximate (step
6), dismantle, pull the piston out of its chamber and let all parts to dry
out. Smear the piston 'O'-ring with some vegetable oil (avoid liquid
paraffin or castor oil) and refit the piston. Re-assemble the gun and
store.
Note: Do not
boil the Vaximates for sterilisation. The plastic may soften and bend.
Packaging:
The Vaximates
are distributed singly packaged, complete with a user instruction leaflet, a
spare piston 'O'-ring, two metres of PVC vaccine tube as well as a stainless
vaccine draw-off needle.
