Caged bass self-injured after a
stormy night with lightning.
Commonly, the lesions affect the mouth, head
and eyes, but occasionally also the dorsal area and the tail. The injured
fish swim sluggishly near the surface showing all expected signs of distress.
Mortality may be high and the losses often continue for about 3-4 days after
the incident.
