Isopodosis of sea bass and sea bream
(Flabellifera, Cymothoidae, Ceratothoa oestroides)

Lesions

Ceratothoa oestroides pulli II larvae seen on the pharyngeal teeth and among the gill lamellae of a sea bass. Gill inflammation and focal necrosis of the epithelium is evident. The operculum has been removed to facilitate observation.

Adult isopods attached in the buccal cavity of sea bass cause slackening of the underlying tissues resulting in the "bag-shape" of the lower jaw.

The gills of sea bass are inflamed with necrotic areas due to the action of pulli II larvae.

Severe eye, mouth and skin damage on the head of sea bass fry suffering attacks by Ceratothoa oestroides pulli II larvae.
