KAYCEE
FISH INJECTION SYRINGES ("GUNS")

Description:

Automatic injection syringes for fish vaccination (injection "guns"), which have been proven accurate and effective for fish vaccination by intraperitoneal injection. Handling time is minimal and hence there is no damage to the anaesthetised fish. The syringes are made of stainless steel and durable plastic materials. Gun types of fixed as wells as of adjustable dose (0.1ml to 1.0ml) are available.

Luer lock 0,7 22G hypodermic needles, of suitable lengths (4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm) may be fitted on to the guns' luer lock stem. The needle length depends on the fish size, that is, the thickness of the fish abdominal walls.

Model FISHJECTOR Mk1 providing fixed dose at 0.1ml.

Variable dose model OVIJECTOR providing for dose adjustment from 0.1ml up to 1ml. The dose adjustment knob is located at the end of the pistol grip.

The dose is set by twisting the dose knob. It will click into precise dose settings each complete turn. The dose setting is read against the extreme end of the pistol grip.

Advantages:

Brief user instructions:

  1. Fit the PVC vaccine feed tube (contained in the package) to the gun's inlet point and then pierce the vaccine bottle's rubber cap with the draw-off feed needle fitted to the distal part of the feed tube.
  2. To prime, adjust dose to the maximum (if the gun is a variable dose model) and operate trigger until the air is expelled from the feed tube and from the body of the gun and the vaccine fills the piston chamber and starts to flow from the gun.
  3. On variable dose models, adjust the desired dose (most often 0.1ml) by turning the dose knob at the extreme end of the pistol grip.
  4. Fit and lock the hypodermic needle to the syringe Luer lock 22G stem, by turning it clockwise. Fish injection needles range in length from 3mm to 6mm. Start injecting.
  5. Replace the needle once it feels less effective when piercing the fish abdominal walls (usually after about 1500 injections).
  6. Clean the gun after use by pumping through a light soapy detergent dilution followed by rinsing with distilled water. The process of cleaning and rinsing the guns is similar to repeating step (2) above several times.
  7. For long term storage clean the guns (step 6), remove the piston from its chamber after detaching from keyhole slots in side arms and let parts to dry out. Smear the piston 'O'-ring (piston seal) with liquid paraffin or castor oil and refit the piston. Re-assemble the gun and store.

Warning: Do not interchange pistons between syringes when assembling. They are individually calibrated for accuracy.

Packaging:

The Kaycee injection guns are distributed singly packaged, complete with a user instruction and maintenance leaflet, two metres of PVC vaccine tube as well as a stainless vaccine draw-off feed needle.

Maintenance:

If after long use the injection guns lose their dosing accuracy or leak from base of handgrip they are in need of maintenance. (Working over a tray to prevent loss of parts), check that valves and valve seats are clean and undamaged. Disassemble, check and replace worn out parts, such as valves, valve springs, fibre washers, silicone 'O' ring. Check all operations against the provided diagramme of maintenance leaflet.

Complete spares kits are available for every Kaycee model.
