HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR AQUACULTURE
Farm visits
are organised on call for autopsies and on site diagnostic work as well as fish
sampling for further laboratory examination. A fully equipped diagnostic
laboratory is in operation in order to complete the necessary necropsy,
microbiology, parasitology and histology examinations of the samples.
Regular
monitoring of the health status and growth performance of the fish stocks and
the overall fish farm hygiene.
Evaluation
of the environmental sensitivities on each site, the stock management
procedures and feeding policies in view to optimising the growth performance of
the fish, ensuring the most productive use of resources and inputs and keeping
any negative environmental impact to the minimum.
Consultation
and training as regards the appropriate hygiene and disease prevention
strategies tailored to the particular needs of any hatchery or on-growing farm.
On-farm
support for the administration of vaccines and staff training on vaccination
techniques. (VetCare/AquaHealth has pioneered sea-bass and rainbow trout
vaccination on Greek marine and fresh water farms since 1993 and proved that
major diseases could be prevented with the suitable vaccination strategies and
vaccines.)
Active
encouragement, in all matters concerning fish health, of the co-operation and
the flow of information among fish farmers, particularly those sharing the same
river or bay resources.
